Google+ Crosses 20 Million Users Mark in Three Weeks

Google’s latest social platform i.e. Google+ has finally hit the 20 million users mark in just three weeks. Its hard to believe such a rapid growth. This astonishing growth rate surely makes Google+ the fastest growing social platform.
It is definitely the fastest ascent to 20 million visitors that I can think of,” Andrew Lipsman, ComScore’s vice president of industry analysis, told the Los Angeles Times.
According to a ComScore, a research firm, Google has had 20 million unique visitors since its release last month 5 million of which are from United States. Google+ reached this milestone just one week after reaching 10 million members. According to the Google’s CEO   more than 1 billion different items have shared on Google+. These figures show that still being a new social platform Google+ has already made its mark in the world of social platforms.
After many of the failed attempts with the previous social platforms it looks like Google+  is expanding righteously like a beast unleashed in social. This surely is stunning but, in comparison to 750 million users of Facebook these 20 millions still seem very low.

Google Plus To Launch Verified Celebrity Accounts

According to the news from CNN Google+ is now working on some “Celebrity Acquisition Plan”. This plan will basically verify the celebrity accounts on Google+. Stars like Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga who have more than 10 million fans on twitter can be a valuable traffic attracting sources, Google clearly identified the importance of introducing verified celebrity accounts on Google+.
The plan is still unconfirmed by Google, moreover the company recently told brands and businesses not to create Google+ profiles just yet, as it works on a better experience for them.
The main issue which celebrities face while adapting to the environment of social platforms is impersonating. Any one can make an account impersonating a celebrity on a social platform so, there is surely a need for some way to identify and verify the legitimate accounts. Brett Schulte, a Hollywood consultant and social media organizer, explaining the current work of Google+ said:
As part of this initiative, Google is beginning to devise a system that would verify the identities of public figures who sign up for the service. They seemed to be very interested in having celebrities.
There are several ways in which Google could verify the celebrity accounts on Google+. They could either attain a copy of celebrity’s drivers license, or establish a line of communication with top talent consultants, as well as agencies, and allow them to file requests for celebrity verifications themselves.
What else this Celebrity Acquisition plan will encompass, its difficult to say anything at the moment but, it is possible that Google may split some ad revenue with Celebrities as to encourage them to engage with their fans. However the time will tell how the things unfold.

Blah, blah, blah … something about IPv6

The efforts to convert corporations to the next generation Internet addressing scheme are falling on deaf ears, according to research from Ovum. The analyst firm reports that a mere 3 percent of web traffic is IPv6 enabled and enterprises either aren’t convinced of the need to switch, or think they already have. The mentality seems to be “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and so far nothing seems broken. However we’re already seeing some notable signs that the IPv4 pool is shrinking, including a $7.5 million deal by Microsoft to buy up some unused IPv4 addresses. For consumers, the lack of IPv4 addresses may add a little latency to web requests but it’s not like they won’t be able to visit their favorite web sites unless their ISP (like mine) doesn’t get its act together. BlackBerry App World hits one billion downloads, finally

Discovered a world of possibilities lately? Someone has, as the BlackBerry App World has just soared past the one billion download mark. It took a smidge over two years for the company to claim the milestone, if you count both smartphone and PlayBook tablet purchases. Android Market took about the same amount of time to reach the mark, but has soared to greater heights since, while Apple has averaged nearly a billion downloads per month in each of the last six months. A number of factors have likely led to the relative snail's pace in the BB storefront, including the outfit's rocky relationship with developers. In what can be seen as a morale booster, the company has begun a video series that allows seasoned RIM aficionados to offer their rationale for working with the mobile OS. Perhaps this will, in theory, help expedite the milestone conquering -- only time will tell.

iPhone 4 Gets Jailbroken at 20,000 Feet with JailbreakMe

It looks like there aint any chill pill for Jail-breaking enthusiasts as they continue to strive in various directions to show their love for jailbreaking. The news of  people jailbreaking on-display iPod touches and iPads at Apple Stores (using the PDF document based exploit) wasn’t enough for YouTuber TheVexenon who uploaded a video of himself jailbreaking his iPhone 4 at a whooping altitude of 20,000 feet.
He used the in-flight WiFi of the aircraft to access JailbreakMe.com to jailbreak his iPhone 4 as JailbreakMe allows users to jailbreak their iDevices literally anywhere.
There are various other jailbreaking utilities such as Redsn0w, Sn0wbreeze and Pwnagetool but the latest JailbreakMe 3.0 has unmatched simplicity as it just takes seconds to jailbreak.

World's First No-Glasses 3D Laptop

Toshiba UK will begin selling what it calls the first glasses-free 3D laptop  next month. The awkwardly named Qosmio F750 will allow viewing of both two- and three dimensional content such as games and movies. But the drawback is that only one person at a time can enjoy the 3D effects by sitting directly in front of it.

The Qosmio is part of a growing slate of glasses-free 3D products hitting the market, from Nintendo's recent 3DS portable game player to smartphones such as HTC's 3D 4G, which debuted this month and several televisions, including Toshiba's REGZA GL1.

Toshiba is also marketing the Qosmio F750 to developers and other creators, noting that product concepts, architecture  plans, medical information or educational tools "can be viewed with unparalleled realism and greater depth."
The Qosmio F750 is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia Geforce GT540M graphics processor with a SATA 640 gigabyte hard drive with 6GB DDR3 (1333MHz) random access  memory. It also has a Blu-ray XL re-recordable drive and runs Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system, with Wi-Fi 802.11 and Bluetooth 3.0.
In its hands-on review of a test model, Engadget said the "the videos we saw were pretty mouthwatering -- at least once our eyes and brain adjusted to the 3D effect" and "The eye-tracking system was remarkably quick." But reviewer Sharif Sakr noted that the single-user 3D limit was "a major downside."

Facebook Rolling Out Skype Multi-User Video Chat

Google may be working to win social networkers to its newly launched Google+ project, but Facebook is giving them one more reason to stick around. The social networking giant on Wednesday announced video  chat via a partnership with Microsoft-owned Skype. Facebook has been inching toward this reality for the past year. The Web 2.0 darling's messages team has made several moves that aim to make it easier for its members to have conversations with friends. A Facebook e-mail address is one example. A new function that pools chats, texts, e-mails and messages is another. But video chat was obviously missing from the leading social networking platform.
"The new chat design includes a sidebar that lists the people you message most. Now it's easier to find your friends and start a conversation," Philip Su, an engineer on Facebook's video calling team, wrote in the company blog. "The sidebar adjusts with the size of your browser window, and it automatically appears when the window is wide enough."
Google+ Hangouts Better?
As part of the Skype on Facebook launch, the company will roll out what Su said is one of the most demanded features: multi-person chat. Su offers an example of its utility: When your friends can't figure out what movie to see, you can just add them to a chat and decide together. To include more friends in your conversation, simply select Add Friends to Chat. A history of the video chat is available in messages.
This seems to directly counter a feature in Google+ called Hangouts. But Google still thinks it does video chat better. In its Google+ announcement, the search giant pointed out that today's online communications tools (read: instant messaging and video calling) don't put people at ease or encourage conversation because you can't ping everyone that's available and you are bound to interrupt someone's plans.
Hangouts works to overcome those annoyances by creating casual meetups with live multi-person video that lets people stop by when they are free. But with Skype, Facebook has a head start. Skype has about 170 million users in the mix.
"Video chat has been around for years now, but it's still not an everyday activity for most people. Sometimes it's too difficult to set up, or the friends you want to talk to are on different services," Su explained. "So a few months ago, we started working with Skype to bring video calling to Facebook. We built it right into chat, so all your conversations start from the same place. To call your friend, just click the video call button at the top of your chat window."
Advantage: Facebook
Skype could gain many more with the Facebook partnership. Facebook will roll out the video chat service Relevant Products/Services to more than 750 million people in over 70 languages over the next few weeks.
"This is the natural evolution of tying together the communication Relevant Products/Services technologies and making Facebook what it has become, which is a communications portal," said Rob Enderle, principal analyst at The Enderle Group. "Where Facebook has the advantage over Google is that both Facebook and Skype have much larger market share Relevant Products/Services. Part of the issue with any tool is that you want to make sure there is someone at the other end. There are more people at the other end using a Skype-Facebook combination than with Google+, which hasn't even shipped yet."

Google Chrome OS Images Leaked ??

It's been just a few weeks since we first heard of about Google's Chrome OS and it's the second time that we are hearing about the screenshots/images of the OS at work being leaked. While the first "leak" was proven a false alarm, this one looks slightly more convincing. Another thing that makes this leak slightly more convincing is that these are blurred; crap images shot by a seasoned image leaker (from a Nintendo DS, apparently) who knows how to take photographs that will soon end make rounds of the interweb. The images set by an "anonymous tipster" to folks over at Downloadsquad show the Chrome OS at work. Now, before going overboard, let us mention the flip side. While this one does look more convincing than the previous attempt, there are reasons to believe this one too might be the handiwork of a person who had a lil bit of extra time at his disposal and is good at photoshop. To start off with, the UI bears no resemblance to Google's traditional, simplistic approach. In one of the images, you can also see a Linux logo. Somewhere, it just doesn't feel right! We leave it to you to decide how true (or false!) this one turns out!

Fool a Keylogger

These days Agents spy on u everywhere, in college, at work, maybe a trojan virus on your home PC which keylogs your paswords and mails it to someone else. If u think u r being logged, try this: Whenever u have to type a password, never type the complete password in one go, ie, if your password is WINDOWS, u should type NDOW, then move cursor to start of the password field using the mouse ONLY, then type WI, then move cursor to end using the mouse and type S. This way the logger will record your keystrokes as [ndowwis] instead of [WINDOWS]. Haha, keylogger fooled.

How to Flush DNS in Windows, Mac and Linux

When do you want flush DNS (Domain Name System)?

You visit one of the most frequently viewed websites in your list and find it’s not loading up, it could be very frustrating at times.

The site can be down for more than one reason, the most common one being, the remote server being down. To ensure if the server is up, ping the server directly, and the response tells you the status.

Let’s assume that the servers working fine, but still the site does not load up in your browser! DNS failure can be the cause. And this us a common case if server is relocated and/or the site is moved on to a new server, as DNS propagation normally takes anywhere from 24 – 72 hrs to propagate and work fine.

This scenario is also true when you set up new domain on a server.

If the site fails to show up even after 72 hrs, you may have to clear your DNS cache to ensure the request is not going to the old ips of the site you are trying to load.

Clearing DNS cache will ensure your PC does not have old records of bad DNS entries. If the bad entries are not flushed then you need to wait up to 24 hours for it to be dropped from the cache automatically, which is a scheduled activity in some computers.

The following list gives you the set of commands to flush DNS on different platforms:

If you are on Microsoft Windows:

1. Use the command ipconfig/flushdns in your command prompt.
2. The ipconfig/displaydns can be used to view the DNS resolver cache.

If you wish to turn off DNS Caching on Microsoft windows then The client-side DNS caching can be disabled by using either of these two commands:

1. net stop dnscache
2. sc servername stop dnscache

Until the next reboot DNS caching will be disabled and to make this permanent user the Service Controller tool or the Services tool to disable DNS Client service startup type.

If you use Mac OS X Leopard:

1. Use dnscacheutil -flushcache
Eg: bash-2.05a$ dnscacheutil -flushcache

And if you are on any version of Linux:

1. Use nscd daemon which manages the DNS cache.
Restart the nscd daemon by using the command /etc/init.d/nscd restart

Enabling right click on sites that disable it

Enabling right click on sites that disable it Lots of web sites have disabled the right click function of the mouse button... it's really, really annoying. This is done so that you don't steal (via right-click->save picture) their photos or images or any other goodies. Unfortunately, it disables ALL right-click functionality: copy, paste, open in new window. It's easy to change, assuming your using IE: Click "Tools"->"Internet Options" Click the "Security" tab Click "Custom Level" Scroll down to the "Scripting" section Set "Active Scripting" to "disable" Click "Ok" a couple of times. You'll probably want to turn this back to "enable" when your done... 'cause generally the javascript enhances a website.
